  • Yeah i remember the first time my mom had a $100 grocery bill shortly after my baby brother was born in 2003. I didn’t even get into the elevated food prices, i just wanted to focus on how i make less money and pay more for housing and my shitty car every month than my parents did when they were my age without adjusting for inflation. We are all fucked financially.

As a counter point, i make less than my parents did when the were my age and pay more in rent than they did on their mortgage without adjusting for inflation. Also, buying food for a family costs essentially the same as buying food for one, as nearly all recipes you find are assuming you are gonna feed a family with it.

  • UCC is probably the most progressive American denomination. The UCC church i went to as a kid in Ft. Wayne did a baptism for a lesbian couple’s baby back in 2007. The one i went to in Houston 10 years ago had a black lesbian pastor in a congregation that consisted of 1/3 philippinos, 1/3 Nigerians, and 1/3 old Blue Dog Democrats. I would describe myself as an atheist/agnostic, but i enjoy going to the UCC services at the church down the street a few times a month. The sermons have ALWAYS been about how Jesus told people to love one other, and i have never heard a fire and brimstone message in all my years of going to UCC churchs.
