Just showed up in the mail yesterday. Excellent Spanish pop with an operatic influence. Bjork guests on the album also and Bjork rules.

I have a huge problem with the production of the album, and I think it is what is holding the album back from good to great. The mix is all wrong.

Rosalia’s voice is mic’d wrong and too far forward which both drowns out the absolutely amazing music, both electronic and London Symphony, and the guest singers. The mic choice/placement is also wrong for her voice which makes it feel like she is right next to her ear. ASMR is all well and good, but not for a voice as sharp and powerful as Rosalia’s. You can’t record Rosalia as if she was Billie Eilish.

The instrument mix is also all wrong. Everything is forward amd there are a loy of frequencies stepping over each other, which often leads to an absolutely chaotic and unpleasant listening experience.

If this album ever gets a remix/remaster, it could very well be her greatest achievement. As it is now, it is too flawed a mix to really deliver on its promise.

It is definitely a good album. Mixing is a very subtle art and a good mix can be what separates a good album from an absolute masterpiece.

You might be able to notice what I mean in La Rumba Del Perdon. Silvia Perez Cruz is a treasure, but her voice is softer and very personal. Rosalia is HUGE and sharp and loud. They are both amazing in their own way. Unfortunately the producer treated them as if almost equal things so you end mentally pulling back from Rosalia while simultaneously struggling to grasp Silvia Perez Cruz. You hear them both, but neither as they should be heard.

Again, good album. It’s just the mix that’s a bit off IMO.
