I’m a fan of pointing out that we aren’t even the only United States in North America.

Ah, Threads and some other lower quality social media are full of people making snarky comments to users from the States, saying something to the effect of “we are also in the Americas, so we’re Americans, you’re a US-ian”.
It all basically stems from the fact that in Spanish, the demonym for people from the US is “estadounidense” (United-Statesian) whereas “America” is used to refer to all of North and South America as a regions. People are too dumb to realise “America” has a different connotation in the two languages and it devolves into flame wars.

In the sense that the government and the people are misaligned? Or is this one of those “you’re united statesian, there are 30 countries in America” takes?

This is gonna get DMCA’d / Cease and Desist -ed so fast. Download it now if you want it.

Oh no! If only there had been some way for farmers to know this was going to happen! Like Trump telling them it was going to happen! Or every economist in the country warning it was going to happen! Or Trump doing the same thing in his first term! WHO COULD HAVE KNOWN???

b…but…but that would be SOCIALISM!

because it’s shit

But think of the street cred!

I mean, you could approximate a phone with a lot of SBCs out there right now, if you stuck a screen onto it. A lot of them even have SIM modules. If somebody wanted to go full hacker you could probably 3D print a case for something like a Banana Pi, stick a cheap touchscreen OLED panel in there and Frankenstein up a battery. Would be a lot of work though and I’m sure getting all the shit working would be nontrivial.

I’ve done this with a few other LemmyWorld communities I had and could be convinced to do the same here, however, it never works out quite well because you can’t properly redirect the old community to the new one on Lemmy. All you can do is post a sticky and hope people notice it, which means you’ll miss most of the users, or delete the community, which means it just goes poof and so users are unlikely to notice. It’s a problem that could use a better solution since the nature of the fediverse generates a lot of duplicate communities.

Since this was known during pregnancy, this is exactly the case where an abortion should have been performed. Bringing someone into this world in that state - knowingly - is inhumane.

They don’t care as long as the fascist is “their” guy.

This is grimly hilarious

I don’t know who this woman is but I gather no reason to find out.

At the risk of being downvoted, I think the beer quality is pretty similar on both sides of the border, except in what we call the Pacific Northwest, in a greater sense - Cascadia, if you will.
I’m not saying good beer doesn’t exist other places, but in my book, British Columbia, Washington and Oregon form a sort of fantastic microbrew continuum, an example where regional culture transcends the national borders.
A beer from Vancouver or Victoria is comparable in quality to Seattle or Portland, but they collectively wallop most breweries in the other parts of both our countries. These places have a much more developed beer culture, too. Hanging out at microbreweries is so much more of a thing in that region.

The phrase “IRQ in use” is still enough to give me nightmares.
It’s almost impressive how they manage to be wrong on literally every single issue.
