That’s just so stupid. I can’t imagine Doctorow’s usual audience falling for this, though.
(Started reading it today and couldn’t put it away, it’s an amazing book, especially the chapter about technofeudalism. I bought my copy as a DRM-free .epub on thalia.de and it’s definitely the real one 😆.)
My tinfoil hat theory is that this instance is less a cashgrab and more an attack from AI slopbros to drown out criticism their billionaire overlords.
Really keen to sit down and read this book though.
I really enjoy his books, but the past couple of nonfiction books of his just feel like they are repeating themselves… and I haven’t read this one yet, but it looks like it is more of the same.
Don’t get me wrong, I think this is important information that everyone needs to hear… but I feel so disappointed after each one knowing that there really isn’t a solution to the problem. Each book just seems to be restating the issue.
Most disappointing is that doctorow is still on fucking Xitter
I think he might be contractually obliged to post there.
At least he’s also on the Fediverse @[email protected]
“It’s ironic” -Palpatine
Don’t you think? A little tooo ironic? Yeah I really do think.
I’m reminded of this
The original book is just the name ‘Doug’ over and over, but the scammers looking at the best-selling books don’t know that lol It’s so fucking weird
