Capitalism didn’t make the smartphone but it sure as hell ruined it. Went from being the coolest device ever to the most frustrating.

It’s almost as if the products produced under capitalism are not separate from the markets and stage of development of the firms making them. There isn’t an iPhone. There’s an iPhone made by a small company. There’s another iPhone made by a profitable, growing company. Then there’s an iPhone made by one of the richest firms in the world. We can’t have a well designed and made product just be manufactured. It has to change because it’s primary purpose is not being a great product serving its buyer. Instead its primary purpose is growing profit for its maker.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Urghh. Apparently Tim Cook is stepping down soon and for the love of all that’s holy, I hope the next person in line to run the company is more tech-oriented.

F’ck’n hell, some of the products they’ve released since Jobs died - I swear, they were/are designed solely to sell icloud. Just rubbish.

There’s a reason the newest Mac I own is from 2010. Gotta love Open Core Legacy Patcher. Once I can no longer update - it’s coming soon - I’m on to My Next Adventure - Linux!

Late stage/End stage capitalism is here and we can’t get past it fast enough. It’s gonna be a shitshow until we do.

I wouldn’t be too optimistic about that.

Agreed. A few years ago I would have hoped for the same. Now I am pretty confident in betting it would be some profit maximizer. 🥲 I’d be shocked if I lose that bet.

Also capitalists don’t have an appetite for the kind of risk involved in inventing touchscreens or GPS. That stuff all comes from public funding. Capitalists just figure out how to monetize it.

It’s always a point made in bad faith. You either have a “capitalist phone”, or no phone at all. Participation in capitalism is not voluntary, unless you go live a primitive lifestyle off the grid.

If you’re a socialist, you’re still allowed to have some luxuries and buy yourself something nice. Socialism is a political ideology, and not something that should be your entire identity.

We’re not exploiting anyone or living lavish lifestyles at anyone else’s expense.
