How about “less flying”? If they actually had to pay taxes on aviation fuel, there would be no pilot crisis.
actually, air travel is basically a gimmick part of civil aviation economy. it generates a shitton of cash but it is peanuts compared to money generated by trade logistics with those gigantic planes.
Shame it’s so expensive. My lessons are $260 an hour.
I want to be a pilot, but it’s too expensive.
How many hours does it take to go from 0 to airline pilot?
I have crisis fatigue. I have been so frustrated and angry for the last decade. If everything is in crisis then what’s the fucking point, I’m just going to live my life and take care of my family.
There is too much happening that you cant change.
It’s ok to stop watching the news, stop reading the news, and stop engaging with social media. These things are very bad for your mental health. Detox from the Cortisol merry-go-round.
Get back to single track tasks. Read books again, paper ones. Do some stuff that will take weeks or months to pay off, like growing herbs and vegetables. Detox from the instant gratification dopamine merry-go-round.
Practice meditation. Just start with 5 minutes a day, breath-focus or square breathing meditation.
You will be okay.
The advice I read when starting flight training was to keep a backup career choice open in case a medical issue prevents you from flying. Well, by the time I’d reached the point of choosing whether to do flight instructor training I was making enough in tech that taking a pay cut for years as a flight instructor, then years more of a pay cut at a regional airline, made it an easier choice to have flying remain only a fun hobby.
Captains can make over $300,000. I guess you decided that the pay cut wasn’t worth it even long term?
A big part was work-life balance; a decade or two of lowered seniority, pay, and less ideal schedules is about how long pilots can expect it’ll take to be captain of a wide-body jet for a major airline. I currently work from home and learned I do actually prefer learning about technology every day. Much of commercial flying is more similar to being a bus driver in the sky, while also being vigilant for the rare occasions when the plane tries to kill you.
That makes sense.
Unfortunate that it takes so long to build a career in flying when you need another career to get into the pilot career. Huge obstacle.
Somehow rather, people are still fucking flying. The whole month where news covered that helicopter that crashed into the plane full of people and people are still fucking flying. Like WTF? What are you people not getting?
