Whats on dinner plates tonight?
Went out for lunch to the local pub and had grilled salmon and veggies. Was not bad at all. Sorry no pics, I ate it before I thought of taking a photo 😔
Ah, that sounds nice. I can’t wait to go have a relaxing pub lunch again!
Got the Chicken Soup on the go, added a few red kidney beans to fill out the recioe though, the recipe seemed a little lacking.
Some grilled sardines & a Valenciano salad (tuna, olives, peppers, tomatoes etc.)
and a few beers
What beers?
I had a couple Beer Farm (A Margaret River brewery) middys day before last, they went down nice.
They don’t get very ‘crafty’ here (Spain)…yet (I have seen craft beers and they are OH SO trying to get us all on the IPA shit wagon, but nothing has gained traction).
That being said, we do have a small, artisanal brewer who does well, but in his own establishment. So you have basically lagers of different brands taking the lion’s share: Estrella Galecia, Mahou, Estrella Damm, Estrella Levante (which we sell on tap, these are the top 4), Ambar, Cruzcampo and San Miguel round out basically all of the regular beer in this region.
Turia (which we also sell on tap) is the Valencian toasted Märzen beer, is probably the most ‘artisenal’ you’d get on tap.
Now I’m excited that they’re offering a Turia Blonde which I bought 2 cases to be delivered Friday so I can try it out.
Long story short, I had an Estrella Galecia.
Oh, as an added bonus: So if you have one distributor who offers, say E. Levante and Turia on tap, then that’s your distributor (including all their catalog) for beer- there are no multi dist. taps. It is technically illegal for one distributor to not sell you a keg/tap if you have a competitors… buuuuuuut you’re not going to get it.
It’s interesting.

Why wouldn’t they supply a tap? A sales a sale? Or is it some, don’t trwad on my turf, u won’t tread on yours type of set up. Bloody restriction of trade!!
Yes, but to be fair we didn’t move here to have everything exactly the same as where we left, so its weird but then again I don’t have to have every single beer on tap just to attract that one odd customer.
Also, there really isn’t space for a lot of kegs in most bars/restaurants, very-very few cold rooms for kegs. Most places just have a small underbar cooling unit for beer on its way to the tap.
We just got back from (western end of nowhere) Ireland visiting our son and there are exactly 2 pubs within 20km and everyone goes to the other one because they have a cold room for Guinness and his Inn has and underbar cooler like we have and the difference was…?
