I’m supposing the cost is largely because of all the legal issues sellers have to deal with. Dropping the tax stamp won’t affect that cost? So what if the paperwork goes away? Shouldn’t that tank the price?

So damned frustrating. Got a Chiappa Little Badger (22LR) inbound to the FFL and I’d love to throw a suppressor on it. Gotta spend $400 just to dial in the noise? All I want is a survival rifle I can break in half, backpack down to the creek, throw on the kayak to float around the swamp, whatever, one that is quiet.

So what if the paperwork goes away?

The paperwork still happens, it is simply the $200 cost that goes away. That’s all cost for the end user, not the suppressor company. The same NFA restrictions and hoops that may exist at a state or county level for the end user are the same. Nothing about how the suppressor companies operate is changing legally.

While I can’t see the future, I’m not sure what incentive suppressor companies have to lower prices, especially in a market where new customers coming in feel like they are already getting a $200 discount.

If the paperwork requirements were dropped, demand would rise and more manufacturers would come in and the price would drop. Imagine if you could buy them on AliExpress

I feel like there’s an untapped market of people like me who would buy loads of suppressors if they were cheap enough.

I’d buy an STG44 if it was $50. Sadly, no ones sells them for that price.
