I’m from Canada. My own government uses “X” as a means of contact. I think it is disgusting and I’m worried my countrymen do not have the know-how to change this.

Sadly, this is almost certainly the case. As it is with everyone else. The “learning curve” of one app is about all most people can stand. They’d rather support fascism than learn a new app.
