Huh. I’ve not had that experience. Then again, I don’t have a ton of tray icons on my Mint install, mostly just Steam, Telegram, and occasionally Discord.

TBH I’m fine with XFCE. It looks reasonably modern but is lightweight and uncomplicated. Takes recolors well, too. Never had any problems with it.

I’m on Spectrum in the US and their “support” is somehow worse than just not having IPv6. Tons of dropped packets, shifting IP address ranges, and overall a lot of headaches. Tried everything I could to sidestep the issues but there was nothing doing. Eventually I just disabled IPv6 and the issues went away. Maddening.

I had no idea there were existing compatibility issues to be honest. If anything I’ve had better luck using my 8BitDo controllers with the Steam Deck versus my Windows machines. My SNES30 (yes, SNES30, not SN30) always had issues co-existing with other controllers on Windows, but it’s never been a problem on the Steam Deck.

Like I needed another excuse to replay Earthbound. Dammit man!

Debian 12 let me turn an ailing Gateway Centrino laptop into a media center + game station. It’s technically dual core but it’s 32-bit and really, really goddamn slow. Still, it’s more than fast enough to run everything from the 4th console generation and before, and play a bunch of stuff I snagged with yt-dlp… as long as I made sure it was h264 and 480p or lower. Yeesh.

Still more than enough to make the break room at work amazing.
