I guess my views on police have strayed from the norm over the last several years. Just about the only style of policing I respect now is what Victor Cizanckas was trying to build in Menlo Park several decades ago.

The cops under him went back to the trend towards militarisation as soon as he was gone though, the roots of oppression run too deep for one man to change the culture.

What do I want from police? End the 1033 program and everything like it in other countries, divest all military equipment and uniforms, return to Peelian principles at a minimum or demilitarise entirely, ban police unions, and invest in struggling communities rather than funding cops to oppress them. And fire anyone who ever attended a David Grossman seminar and liked it. For starters.

Time to find out where they’re made and strike. I just really would rather the answer is not “in China”.

Edit: factory said to be in Votkinsk, not far from the border of Ukraine. Looking forward to news from that direction.

You jest, but remember that the Dept of Education has been EO’d almost out of existence, currently run by Vince McMahon’s wife who is a staunch supporter of “school choice” and charter schools. These are the easiest way to re-segregate schools, put the curriculum back in the hands of moneyed interests, and defund public education.

The trend will be that public schools will have all the kids who are economically disadvantaged, disaffected, badly taught, and unable to be helped by teachers and faculty who are underpaid, understaffed, and hobbled by bad policy, the more school shootings will become a problem that doesn’t affect a certain segment of society. Any parents who can, will pull their kids from failing public schools and pay more to have their kids attend other schools, or even homeschool. The fewer kids the public schools have, the more budget cuts will be authorised.

All public schools will ultimately be shuttered, under this plan. School shootings will keep happening of course, but once it only affects rich white kids, it will finally be taken seriously, at least.

Last week was incredible. I took Friday off to prepare for a weekend trip to Weymouth (and play a little Silksong, finished act I finally), as my wife was interviewing for a job there. Everyone was friendly, the library is a pillar of the community, and we stayed at the Royal Oak, which was extremely pleasant. Sounds like they like her for the job, too. Great stuff.

So far this week is less charmed, work needs to be busier and we’re in the middle of being acquired so everything’s feeling a little off.
