Since getting married to a programmer I’ve learned that CS is not the same as IT. I’m still the family IT person, now I just sleep with a walking talking command line cheat sheet. She could write a program for anything but a KVM is black magic to her.

Just fucking blown away. So impressive! Good for you!
Damn, I see Defying Gravity and Whitney Houston and Celine! Can you actually hit those notes!? I see you wanted to do Opera so I wouldn’t be surprised so much as just completely impressed.

12·2 months agoOh another RT article… Again nothing obviously non-factual just the least generous take again. Zelenski’s former associate… Wasn’t there a big conviction in Ukraine recently about something very similar. Is it possible that no one is talking about this because Ukraine is actively handling it? Hmmm?
Thanks RT, glad to know you have no anti-ukraine, pro-russian bias… Wait shit, that’s backwards!

32·2 months agoRT comes out swinging. I’m not saying they’re wrong but this is firmly the most negative view possible. And it’s full of glass houses shit. Like yeah Russia, the US is pretty good at sewing chaos abroad, how’s your chaos going? Your 3 day war still going on?
Oh has US leadership fallen short of the goals and vision of the people? Really? I wonder who supported Donald Trump in getting to the presidency. Surely no one in Russia. I definitely didn’t see articles from RT talking about how good Trump will be for global stability. Nope definitely not RT.
Fucking Russian media, I suppose it’s fair to kick us while we’re down. We’ve always done it to the rest of the world. I still would rather live here than China, or especially Russia, but I’d also rather not live here.

Like even if someone still wants to sleep outside, a safe place to store your shit so it stays dry seems pretty dope. A place you can show up to when the temperature drops and your shivering and just sleep at with no strings attached…
Shelter is one of our basic needs, kind of like food and water… Seems like our basics shouldn’t be driven by profit.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•I've honestly never quite realized up until now how utterly ridiculous it is that people (especially in the US) regularly demand that their food be chauffeured to them.English
11·6 months agoPizza delivery sure, but meals on wheels it’s for the disabled and elderly. It’s not just food delivery, it’s a social call, a check in on those who might not have anyone else to check on them. Meals on Wheels also doesn’t deliver one meal. It delivers many in one vehicle.
I’m sure there are things to criticize about the program but most of that is probably a lack of funding not delivering meals and food to those who need it.
Wait it’s not supposed to be two people with 1 apple each and me with 4?

4·10 months agoI grew up on Gundam Wing. It’s quite the ride now that I’m older and see a lot of the politics at play. And in much the same vein I loved Gundam 00.
But Iron-Blooded Orphans might be the best/most accessible series in the franchise.
Witch from Mercury hits hard at the end of the first season which is a good thing and a staple of the franchise.
Unicorn is bright and shiny. I watched it twice and that’s all I can remember.
Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket is probably the most succinct and existential series with 6 episodes and a build up to reveal how fucking horrible war is.
I dunno, you kind of just gotta jump in and get dirty. The themes vary from series to series but the main timeline, called Universal Century (UC.) is almost always focused on the human aspect.
Gundam is about space battles and politics and giant robots… Until it is about the stress and rigors of war. Not sleeping because you see the people you’ve killed. Overcoming the horror of losing friends, mentors, and loved ones to the fighting.
But again there are a bunch of series, each one is basically it’s own self contained narrative that requires little in the way of prior knowledge. If you see something that interests you just jump in and watch it. I’m currently gearing up to watch the second Gundam Thunderbolt movie. The first one was pretty damn intense and I needed a three week cool down period.
On a more general anime note, I highly recommend the Apothecary Diaries.

Science Fiction@lemmy.world•What SF books did you enjoy the most in 2024?
0·1 year agoDon’t force it! I think if you read books solely because other people say it’s good then you’re doing it wrong! :)
If you were interested in the Cosmere but wanted something light…much lighter. Then try Tress and the Emerald Sea. The narrator breaks the 4th wall a bit and speaks directly to you but if that isn’t an immediate deal breaker the story is light-hearted and adventurous. It follows a girl, Tress, as she leaves home to save her beau.

Science Fiction@lemmy.world•What SF books did you enjoy the most in 2024?
0·1 year agoI dropped ASOIAF in the middle of the third book. It probably had something to do with knowing it’d never be finished, but I just felt bored. It was all so high stakes and meaningless, not for me.
The writing in The Expanse is grating, it’s all he said, she said, he said, they said, he said, said said said said said said said said said said said. If I hadn’t been listening to it while at work I’d have bailed in the first book. If you can get past that the series has great world building and I love Avarsarsla.
Rothfuss is indeed great but I can’t recommend it to anyone knowing we’re only getting two nights of the three promised.
Silo is actually on my list.
I’ve also been rereading the Honorverse by David Weber. I love it still but it gets to be a slog and the story is feels like it’s the same everytime. I want to get past book 6 or 7 but never have.
I can’t say enough good things about the Stormlight Archive.
But then again I also enjoyed the hell out of Brent Weeks’ Lightbringer series which seemed to be mostly disliked on the whole. I read it before the 4th and 5th books were released so I’m not sure where it goes and need to get back to it some day.
Speaking of Weeks, the Night Angel Trilogy is bomb. It’s no literary masterpiece but it’s a dark and gritty world that sets your expectations and fulfills them over and over again. The story is cliche and I like it. The characters are fun to follow as they navigate the plot points I can see coming from books away.

I bought a Neuphy air 75 off Craigslist a few years ago. I don’t know if I’ve ever charged it.
I also have a Logitech MX Master that I just toss in a bag with everything else. I bought a $10 dongle to have HDMI out and charging in. I use Bluetooth for the mouse and keyboard.
Now I have mobile gaming machine and computer to plug into any TV to use Stremio.
