Nooo! D:

Same old story, GrapheneOS’s self-rightousness has caused them grief before (plenty of times actually), and this is just another example of it. Compare and contrast with something like CalyxOS, or even just Vanilla LineageOS, and it’s night and day for being able to support more devices and be less reliant on Google. And I say that as a guy who loves his Pixel 6 Pro with CalyxOS.
GOS is a great idea, and I’m glad it exists, but ultimately they are their own worst enemies about a lot of things. Micay obviously wasn’t the whole issue there either (though he certainly bears a lot of responsibility for what made Graphene and its community so toxic for several years too…).
Well, their username does check out.
Umm… How old is this meme? You haven’t (really) able to play PC/Steam games on Mac for a while… Also, XFCE hasn’t been a serious contender for a DE (save for a lower end hardware spec) for quite a while now.
This meme might have made more sense if it was comparing to Windows. Comparing it to a Mac now is comical, especially since a lot of Adobe software doesn’t work quite right yet on M* series Mac’s yet (though it is better than at launch).

Huh? That ain’t what I meant at all… I’m sticking with Pixel for my next upgrade, there’s not much that could make me change my mind. If for some reason Pixel died next year, I’d probably switch to OnePlus (if I can find a good ROM for it that’s as good as CalyxOS), but I can’t say I’d be happy about it.

Uhh, yeah no… A phone with a processor that’s equivalent to something from like 4 generations ago isn’t gonna cut it. Even then, that processor would be less powerful than the Tensor G1 in my Pixel 6 Pro. If you’re concerned about data sharing, just get a Pixel and put CalyxOS or GrapheneOS on it. More secure anyways, and you still get much better hardware along with it.

Yeah… My Pixel 6 Pro is the best phone I’ve ever had, and I don’t even intended to upgrade until the Pixel 11 at least. So, you’re just wrong.

It’s like that on Reddit too. Sometimes I wonder if its outside agitators (like you see on places like r/Brave, r/CalyxOS, etc), or if its just idiotic people who don’t know better…

Yeah, here’s pretty good evidence for that. This is one of the admins of Lemmygrad, and based on the communities he runs alone it shows he is involved in the development of Lemmy. Further still, is this comment by him where he says he created an issue to be added on the Lemmy Github. The GitHub thread shows it was made by one of the two Lemmy devs.
That’s definitely some of the clearer evidence that they are involved in the ownership of Lemmygrad. Also just noticed that the .ml domain sites are back online. Wonder how that happened?

Yeah, that’s another core issue. The provider of the .ml domains is being sued by Meta for cybersquatting, and it also has gotten in trouble with ICANN before too. So it was in trouble, even if the Mali hadn’t done what they did. And their actions make sense too in taht context, that’s a lot of potential revenue for Mali in offering .ml domains, much like Tuvalu did with .tv domains.
Also yeah, in most circles it would mean Machine Learning. The Lemmy devs aren’t that… Just for reference, pawb.social is de-federated from the devs other major instance, Lemmygrad.ml, because of their actions there. I can’t speak for fmhy.ml, but I saw it got hit with the same issues due to the .ml domain. They are on a .net now, iirc.

Well, the assumption is because the two Lemmy devs are huge tankes, so using the .ml domain suites them, since it can mean “Marxism-Leninism.”

If you’re going for a similar Fedora-like experience, with it being a rolling release that is still stable, then OpenSuse Tumbleweed is definitely you’re best bet.
Now, if the rolling release nature is something you’re less attached to, then some good options would be Pop!_OS (especially if you have an Nvidia card), another Ubuntu-spin like Kubuntu perhaps or even KDE Neon, and maybe Debian 12. Though for the last one, although it’s a fantastic distro, it looks nice, new, and shiny now, but in 6-12 months when you’re not even half way through the Debian upgrade cycle and still on old software, will that bother you? If the answer is yes, then look elsewhere. Otherwise, Debian 12 may be a good choice for you as well.

Here’s hoping Izzy (F-Droid alternative repo) picks it up fast (edit: just realized that might break things, wait to update until pawbs.social does)… However, good FYI for anyone that doesn’t know, you can download Jerboa directly from the developers GitHub page as well, since it’s FOSS.

Fantastic!!! I didn’t even think of this, but this is an excellent idea.
I’m starting work on what I hope to make a browser extension to automatically connect back to your primary instance of choice if you visit another instance. Doing so cause I got tired of having it be that I’d visit an instance (like from the Rust subreddit) and not have it be linked to here so I can follow stuff. I’ll have it be a user can set their primary instance, then when they visit another one, they can easily have it connect back properly so they can follow communities and interact there.
(Apologies if that sounded confusing… I’m still not sure on all the verbage for the Fediverse. Hopefully it’ll make sense when I release it x3 )

Heh, I can’t actually see what it says cause of the blackout, though I saw they were considering abandoning Reddit entirely (albeit with Discord mentioned as the main go-to, which doesn’t seem like the best choice…).
Given Lemmy is written in Rust, it really would be fitting if they spun up their own instance to create a new community. Heck, it would actually be beneficial to them, as having a central Rust instance would allow for multiple sub-communities for different topics, such as help requests, project showoffs, memes, etc. That would be amazing to see, if it actually happens.
Well, guess I’m outta luck on Bazzite then…
