  • She’s a former cop and prosecutor that wasn’t selected through a primary process (not that Dems ever allow anyone not selected by party elites.)

She’s basically a Republican with zero progressive policies, which isn’t going to appeal to an increasingly radicalized base.

There were a lot of problems with her that had nothing to do with her being a her.

Democrats keep chasing votes to the right, abandoning the actual left and the working class.

  • Politicians do not serve your interests. They serve their own, and they serve their masters.

Your side actually consists of your fellow workers. The other side consists of the capitalist class who are fucking you over and robbing you blind. National level politicians are members of the capitalist class.

When you get upset at “both sidesing” it’s because you haven’t internalized what the sides actually are.

  • Correct. It was American corporations putting up suicide nets around the facilities they owned that were exploiting rural Chinese people that didn’t fully understand their rights under Chinese law, and once again American corporate oligarchy flexed their influence to convince gullible Americans that this is somehow a failing of the Chinese government instead of American corporations doing what they always do, which is squeeze workers to the point of exhaustion.

You have been lied to, and you are swallowing it whole. Open your eyes, friend. We are the baddies. We always have been.

They already overthrew their government and embraced socialism. You act like they want to overthrow their current government. They live decent lives. Better than ours. Our media lies to you about them. They are largely happy. I know it’s impossible to imagine that, what with living in this nightmare, but it’s possible when your government treats you as more than consumables to be exploited for profits.

How many times must I write the difference between corporate controlled platforms and governmentally controlled internet?

Oh, the burden you must bear dealing with us know nothings.

The same corporations that own the media own the government. There is no difference between the two in the United States. This “democracy” is a sham. This is an oligarchy. How many times do you need to be told this before you get it?

US users make up about 17% of TikToc’s global user base. Selling their addictive algorithm to keep a small number of users was never going to happen.

And what hand waving? It was banned because the US government could not control the flow of information to its own people like it can with all the other US corporate/state owned media. The data collection nonsense is just that. If they cared they could have regulated data collection across the board. Foreign countries abide by host countries laws all the time, see GDPR and similar. But that would have cut into the profits of other corporate/state controlled media outlets like Meta and Google.

  • It’s more like a mix of Instagram and Pinterest. Short form video is frowned upon, they value longer and more thoughtful videos. It is definitely not TikTok, despite what the tiktok refugees initially thought.

They are actively working on English localization and translation, and they include a feature to automatically add subtitles in both English and Mandarin when speaking either.

It is a very welcoming community and it’s mostly people sharing pictures of their pets in the comments.

It’s not “owned” by the Chinese government, but like every other corporation in China it is the government that holds corporations to account, not the other way around like in the US. And it’s more for worker protections and other regulations than it is for any sort of nefarious purposes.

Next time ask them why they don’t personally run for office. Walk them through how only the capitalist class can actually afford to do so. The only people that can run are either members of the capitalist class or people who promise to serve the interests of the capitalist class. You can only vote for a candidate that doesn’t prioritize your interests above those of that capitalist class.

    Maybe they’ll get it. Someday.
