A friend of mine once created this mash-up for MTV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7XwhRhRSvo Still one of my all-time favorite tracks.

I think we might even have 500 to 1000 EUR more than we spend this month, so we can save that for next months. A lot of these are one-time donations, so I’ll have to see how much we’ll have next month, I’ll keep you updated on the blog.

(If every active user would pay 1 euro per year, it would cover the costs) But it can’t be compared to Reddit. Reddit has employees. Employees cost more than infra. If I would pay myself and all the volunteers for the work we put in, the cost would be at least 10 times what it is now.

(If you wanna try, let me know, I can create an account for you on https://forgejo.world/). It has (or will have) activitypub (federation).
Friendica is nice, I’d say try it (https://friendica.world/), but host it yourself if you like it. Personally I use Sharkey (https://sharkey.world/) which you can use like Mastodon, but with longer posts, and you can create pages (like this one https://ruud.social/@ruud/pages/postgresql ).

So the costs are for running all the .world instances. The contribution to FHF is the costs for running the non-profit foundation itself.
The Patreon was setup when mastodon.world was the only instance… haven’t renamed it yet.

I only have an issue with scaling, but I created an issue in Github for that.Edit: nvm, I just failed in finding the right setting :-)
Ruud@lemmy.worldMto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•XPipe - A connection hub for all your servers: Status update for the v16 releaseEnglish2·3 months agoThis looks very nice. A question, we use Teleport, and it does discover all hosts. But when connecting, I need to configure the username for every host separately. Can’t I set a default somewhere?
Ooh I have this album on vinyl (a re-issue of course), very good stuff!
I’ll look into that

Ruud@lemmy.worldMto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•New server for the family, Proxmox or TrueNAS, LXC or Docker?English101·4 months agoI stopped self-hosting stuff that’s for the family. In case something happens to me, no way my wife is going to keep this stuff running. And the kids are too young. So they would lose everything.
Family stuff goes in managed solutions (like Proton). Personal and public stuff is selfhosted.
Just something to consider.
You should be able to cancel and/or change it:
