I am very positively surprised that the prosecutors in Oklahoma didn’t let this drop. The temptation might have been huge: the statute of limitations had long expired and they revived the case with an old law that pauses the clock on the statute.

I canceled Prime when they increased price while lowering features. I canceled Netflix when they forced ads upon me. I always felt alone when I did that, but I sense that this is the ultimate tool. You don’t have to do without Disney+ or Game Pass forever. The CEO is going to be kindly golden parachuted if the quarterly numbers don’t look good. All it takes is 3 months.

I am glad Ukraine has found a strategic target that harms the enemy economy without committing war crimes. Oil refineries are obvious, valid war targets.
I continue being amazed at how much Ukraine can achieve with restraint, and how little Russia accomplishes by committing serial war crimes.

Definitely a big downside, but the cost of rolling your own at an apartment complex and the need to get the HOA involved are prohibitive up front.
Also: without massive upgrades in charging infrastructure, especially in rental apartment complexes, you’re going to see a ceiling reached in EV adoption, because a big chunk of the population simply cannot rely on their next rental also having a port even if their current does.

I really like Pete Buttigieg. He’s got charisma, smarts, credentials, and the ability to show intellectual superiority in a way that is not condescending or patronizing. An increasingly undereducated country needs that.
That said, Harris was absolutely nobody’s choice for President, except Biden and herself. It was not a good time to add to the “force down our throat” feeling of that election, and conservatives seem to be triggered by anything LGBTQ+ existing as it being “forced down their throat.”
Never really had Waltz on the radar until he was nominated. It felt like an odd choice, but he did seem to relate to the electorate a lot more than she did. Honestly, I really don’t know how Biden’s formerly great political instincts abandoned him so completely in passing the torch.

The Zucman tax is absolute minimum of what’s required at this point. It should be higher, it should be progressive, and it should start at lower levels of wealth. Moreover, in the future it should be applied globally and yearly.
I propose a simple, practical test: ask anyone with more than 100 million dollar or euro what their exact wealth is. The difference between what they say and what it really is, that can just be taxed away. It’s going to be more than 2%.
I think it’s important to remember that this is a move away from a single unreliable choke point. For the F35 (probably the best fighter available right now) that’s the USA, newly unreliable. Making Dassault the new choke point is as good as the company is reliable, and “not being able to play nice with peers” is not the best start.
It’s Dassault. They have been making aggressive moves to claim ownership of the program, down to saying they can do it all alone without external participation. The “external participation” partners are not particularly happy about it.
