From our session 0, character creation is really neat. Everything is very modular and flavorful. I went in with a few choices for systems depending on how people wanted to approach the campaign and we chose Draw Steel because the group is made up of people who enjoy crunchy combat. I can’t speak for everyone, only for myself. My opposition to AI isn’t an opposition to the disembodied, out-of-context concept of AI. It’s an opposition to the context in which AI exists and of which it’s emblematic. The form that LLMs take in our society exists because of a prioritization of profit and ownership over workers. I can go more in depth about the specifics of that that if you’d like.

We can have a discussion about the efficacy of luddites and their strategies in working class liberation. I don’t disagree that they achieved little. I just don’t think that their methods failing means we should dismiss the anger they felt or similarly the anger people feel about AI. That’s the truly analogous part. When I rail against AI on Lemmy, I’m not advocating for individuals to start breaking into a smashing up data centers. That would be just as ineffective. But that expression of anger is still valid.

I’ve been following a TikToker who’s well read and is constantly arguing this. His position essentially boils down to race being the primary contradiction, not class. And his anti-Marx stance seems to boil down to the need to de-center white thinkers and that the adoption of Marx doesn’t by revolutionaries of color doesn’t inherently make Marxism an anticolonial ideology. It’s hard to have high quality discussion with him unfortunately because white leftists are constantly making asses of themselves in his lives.

Question for the science side of Lemmy: Does putting a spider outside ever hurt the spider? Like if it’s too cold or something?

My favorite is the people who respond “Oh, you know, living the dream”. Only the most depressed people in the pits of despair answer like that

So your relationship is based exclusively on hanging out alone at each other’s places? Have you asked her why? Like does she have a reason for not liking those other things? I don’t know how you’d stay in long term contact with a person you didn’t live with under those conditions.
