Sometimes they wear red faces.6·1 天前I was eating at a fast food place once and saw what seemed to be a mom who was really angry with her daughter. The kid didn’t seem to be doing anything wrong in the moment but everything she did was wrong to the mom. It looked like an abuse situation but also seemed like something where I’d make it a lot worse for the kid later if I’d tried intervening in the moment. I also didn’t feel comfortable being a guy around 40 trying to talk to a preteen/early teen girl by myself; that could easily be made to look bad and again not help the situation. I’m still not sure what, if anything, I could’ve done to help the kid. I still feel bad for her, can’t imagine treating a kid the way her mom was.

This has apparently been common for some Dysautonomia patients. I’ll be really curious to see if this leads to improved treatment.

jqubed@lemmy.worldto science@lemmy.world•Scientists Finally Reveal Biological Basis of Long COVID Brain FogEnglish29·1 天前As explained in their paper, published in Brain Communications on October 1, 2025, the team hypothesized that patients with brain fog might exhibit disrupted expression of AMPA receptors (AMPARs)—key molecules for memory and learning—based on prior research into psychiatric and neurological disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and dementia. Thus, they used a novel method called [11C]K-2 AMPAR PET imaging to directly visualize and quantify the density of AMPARs in the living human brain.
By comparing imaging data from 30 patients with Long COVID to 80 healthy individuals, the researchers found a notable and widespread increase in the density of AMPARs across the brains of patients. This elevated receptor density was directly correlated with the severity of their cognitive impairment, suggesting a clear link between these molecular changes and the symptoms. Additionally, the concentrations of various inflammatory markers were also correlated with AMPAR levels, indicating a possible interaction between inflammation and receptor expression.
I’ve definitely noticed a correlation of people “married to the job” because they don’t like the person they’re legally married to at home. It seemed to lead to a spike in divorces when the lockdowns hit during COVID.
jqubed@lemmy.worldto Gaming@lemmy.world•The benchmark no one asked for: MacBook vs Legion Go vs DockerEnglish4·2 天前Apple is trying to get games running on macOS, most obviously with the Game Porting Toolkit to make it easier for developers to release Mac versions, but they still face an uphill climb mostly because of the reputation that Macs can’t run games. Of course, Apple would also prefer that these games be sold on the App Store instead of Steam or the Epic Games Store, and I think a lot of developers aren’t too interested in that.
It would be funny if gaming on Linux ends up getting more traction than macOS because of Valve’s efforts with Proton despite the much larger macOS market share.

It seemed to be one of College of Engineering’s early required classes and I think they used it to weed out students.
I almost never had a table stack their stuff the way I wanted. Just make sure your spot is tidy, easy to grab, and there are no surprises like silverware or a tiny dish wrapped inside a napkin. Definitely don’t stick a paper napkin inside your cup that still has a drink in it. By the time it gets back to the dish station it will have turned into a paste someone has to dig out and will be cursing you!

I understand what you’re saying, and your comments are valuable, but I’m gonna ignore your advice.
Were you using a remote or just very gently tapped the screen to start?
I’d never considered how much this applies to the general “tech bro” mindset beyond the chaos theory parts of the book
