  • It’s only “RAVAGING the fuckin’ leftist cause” because the politicians who are supposedly on the “left” are reacting to the situation with an infuriatingly neoliberal and Kissinger-esque geopolitical mentality that simply does not align with:

    • how a very large proportion of western civilians see and understand the situation
    • how people with deeper historical, socioeconomic, sociopolitical, and diplomatic knowledge understand the situation
    • the historical nuance of the quagmire
    • how geopolitics works in general

Or more simply: politicians are continuing to be fucking stupid and miss the moment.

Why the fuck would I care about any Islamic population when if they have power — they would kill me for apostasy?

    Wow, that’s pretty overtly prejudiced.

Here’s a thought: pull your head out of your ass, zoom out, and maybe consider that the problem is the people leading the regimes and religions, and that brutal suppression will only beget more brutal suppression - perhaps to you and yours at some point?

I am absolutely NOT saying “invite hardcore Sharia law into your country and neighborhood” - Sharia (as well as the Christian and Jewish flavors of hardline religious law) are categorically fucking stupid and societally caustic, and should be ideologically starved to death to the greatest extent possible. But I AM saying that fighting ideology with bombs is a dumb fucking idea, because all you’re going to do is make those radical ideologies run rampant, and (if you’ll pardon the darkly humorous pun) explode in popularity.

  • It’s fair to say this social space tends to lean far left. But at the same time, outside of tankie circles, many users are pointedly not dogmatic about it, and in fact have a strong distaste for dogmatic approaches used by both the far right AND far left.

Thunberg is reductive in her approach to issues and geopolitics outside of climate matters, sure - but her ideology is based in humanism and trying to be a decent person while advocating for the human dignity of others, so I personally am willing to give her a rather generous benefit of the doubt. To compare her and her supporters to orangeboi and his is… well, kinda dumb. Thunberg’s supporters care about the environment and human rights. Orangeboi’s supporters care about white people being on top of society, and hurting “the bad people”, where “the bad people” is left intentionally extremely nebulous (more succinctly, they’re fascist supporters and enablers). This is not really an apples to apples comparison.

My previous comment calls you out (admittedly crudely) for expressing utter disdain and contempt for an ongoing human rights catastrophe and genocide, and I stand by that comment. I’m calling you out for being callously indifferent to the rampant suffering that’s being spitefully inflicted on a civilian population by a state actor.

  • The older munition for the Patriot is called a PAC-2, and an upgraded interceptor missile is called a PAC-3.

Clarification, because journalists seem to have a comical level of difficulty getting the nuances of a lot of military hardware right:

There are actually quite a few missile and launch system variants, and “higher number” doesn’t necessarily mean “better”, nor “lower number” “worse”.

    • PAC-2 has a longer range than PAC-3, and also has a ~10x larger warhead, despite being “less PAC”.
    • PAC-3 has ABM capability
    • Patriot launchers can mount 4 “units”, where a “unit” is a single PAC-2 cell, or 2-4 PAC-3 cells.
    • It is also possible to mix-and-match 2/3, including subvariants thereof, so a single battery can use the most appropriate missile for the threat it’s trying to kill (for instance, a PAC-3 for ballistic threats, vs a PAC-2 for a Tu-95 or MiG-31).
