20 years ago I was in college, it was earlyish days of piracy and the net admin had locked down all p2p protocols. I actually used irc bots to cruise file servers and request downloads. Not sure what protocol they were using for file transfer over mIRC but I got a lot of music that way. Netflix was also handy as a DVD burning service but that’s another topic.

A lot of the long/short press stuff is configurable and gesture based (swiping left and right) is the fast way to interact. Which I was using the swiping on sync. Also configurable.

Dude I just had this same experience recently. Hadn’t seen them in at least a decade or more. They are not aging well. I know they are older tech but I even feel like the cinematography and special effects are pretty rough around the edges. And i love watching old movies. I love LOTR but yeah probably not gonna watch those again.

My interpretation is a visualization of SSH as a transport protocol. You say hey SSH, send this message to this remote computer. And SSH goes to that computer and authenticates with a key, then enters your commands. In this case ‘ls’. Then ssh takes the output of that command, in this case the contents of the directory, and brings it back to you.
