The pinephone has this, but unfortunately the phone itself is more of a tinker toy than a daily driver

Interesting timing to read this :
Earlier today, I left to do errands and pick up groceries and managed to forget my cellphone. First thing I thought I was “oh no, can’t play my music” but then I just kinda drove and did my errands.
It was kinda nice not to have my cellphone during the car ride. Had a feeling of being “untethered”.
Both are using Firefox base
I like to test browsers through www.browseraudit.com although im not sure how reliable the results are. I tend to stick with Browsers that score high 390’s / 400.
In case you are wondering, Floorp scored a 400, while Zen scored a 397. Not bad at all
Weird that both taskbar icons for both browsers are the same? (Yellow circle with white “W” on it). Both were downloaded for linux, zipped.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•/e/ OS does a little trolling and sends all your Text to Voice data to OpenAI for processing and Speech generation.
21·2 months agoMan, i really want to like Murena as I have been using e/os for about 3 years now. Even signed up and pay a yearly subsriction for their online ecosystem, albeit its more expensive, but i wanted to give my money to the underdog in this instance.
Going have to read more into this since last years failure doesnt help their image

Linux@lemmy.ml•What will MS do when Linux becomes a serious threat to their monopoly ?
1316·2 months agoSome people including me maybe dont want Linux to become popular.
Can we please have something in this world that isnt ruined by the general population? They already ruined the internet -
been plug and play for me using Nvidia + Linux for years now. Just upgraded to a 5070ti, literally was take out old, put in the new.
+1 for PineTime. I have had mine now for 3-4 years. Love the little guy
Look into Asahi Linux. Its a community driven project Fedora (and other distros) to run on newer Silicon Mac’s. I have it on my M2 MBP and its amazing. It may not be for everyone since it runs AARCH64 / battery isnt great (6+ hours). But its my best looking Linux install due to its screen
now imagine having a girlfriend / boyfriends plus 3 little ones?
Luckily i dont yet that going on but i feel your pain sometimes. I tend to go to bed around 11pm and get up at 5am. Naturally without any alarms. So i have 2 hours in the morning, i tend to do smaller home duties and then after work, study for 1 hour (no more no less), eat and then chill on the couch. On the weekend, get all of your cleaning, errands do as soon as possible which will allow the rest of the day to hang out with friends, or whatever
My biggest advice that I wish more people would is to go to bed on Friday / Saturday / Sunday at the same time you would throughout the week. Dont extend your waking hours and be sluggish come Monday.
Also enjoy your life. It goes quick
At the end of the day, any Distro that you pick will be essentially the same, as far as handling WoW. I have played WoW over the years on the multiple Linux Distros that I have used. The best way would be via Proton from within Steam. I tend to like the custom Proton version - Glorious Eggroll’s version.
For Linux Distros, pick one that is heavily documented like Ubuntu / Mint, both Debian based and tons of troubleshooting articles in case you need to reference them. Tend to prefer Mint between these two, personal choice. I tend to prefer Arch based ones, since they have what is called the AUR (Arch user Repo) which allows more complied apps to be downloaded and used on the system.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•are you permanently banned off reddit? or do you just like lemmy more?
3·7 months agoAs I mentioned in another reply, there are ways around that limit. I was very happy when i was able to use RiF again

2·7 months agoI like Lemmy since its mostly about Tech but even the small communities over on Reddit can be more engaging then communities over here. I am involved in Trading cards and there just not the same community over here for it

2·7 months agoIf you are on Android, there are ways around the API thing. I was able to get my favorite Reddit app, RiF (Reddit is Fun) to continue to work after they took away API access.
https://revanced.app/ Can be used with various Apps as it patches them
Exactly the same for me, expect im running a 2060 Super, maybe 2070 Super, i forget. Been thinking about upgrading my system, atleast the GPU and been thinking about trying AMD this time around

7·9 months agoF-droid works on any Android phone, doesnt need to be GrapheneOS. I have installed in on regular installs plenty of times.
i know its not as easy / inconvenient, but is there any way to use the companies website instead of the app? For example, i usually log into my banks website to check things or to make a transfer between accounts. Yes you cant scan a check or make desposits, but i also not use a lot of companies App’s in the first place. I just dont understand why everyone needs apps - do you really need an app for your ISP?
havent heard of ‘Erowid’ in a minute. Great memories back then, simpler times

Linux@lemmy.ml•I just distro hopped after using a distro almost a year. Is it normal?
10·10 months agoback when i started with Linux, i would distro hop in the beginning since i was trying out different ones, making mistakes, but taking that knowledge with me onto the next one. Then i discovered Manjaro, then EndeavourOS and have been on it for years now
Have thought about reinstalling EOS once i rebuild my computer, but see how that goes -

Software, OS support and hardware specs.
Overall it was a fun project which introduced me to the company Pine64, which also makes the Pinetime Watch which I wear every day for the last 3-4 years.
Phone just isn’t there for daily usage. Horrible battery life, back then the OS worked but were wonky at best. Maybe things are better now but I wouldn’t hold my breath
