  • The Trump administration has barred Iranian diplomats based in or visiting New York from shopping at wholesale club stores like Costco and purchasing luxury goods in the United States without specific permission from the State Department.

In notices to be published this week in the Federal Register, the department’s Office of Foreign Missions determined that diplomatic memberships in wholesale club stores as well as diplomats’ ability to buy items such as watches, furs, jewelry, handbags, wallets, perfumes, tobacco, alcohol and cars are a “benefit” requiring U.S. government approval.

Oh yeah this is incredibly stupid.

The loopholes are easy to find and this screams like the US just wants a bribe.

I had the luxury of seeing incredibly smart engineers speak about their new innovations for web development.

I then got to watch them get hired by Google and paid extremely well to release those innovations, with the support of a bunch of other brilliant people, often under a open-source label.

I then get to see people go, “Google Bad!” About those features, and because it was paid for by Google, they don’t even want to touch it.

  • There’s a study on this phenomenon of why CEOs/people in power can do such shitty things.

The farther detach you are, the more you don’t care. So what if that poor village in Nepal drinks battery acid water so your company can decrease expenses by 4%?

There was a scenario where if the President wanted to use the nuclear football, they would have to kill the man next to them and get the secret codes out of their body. They apparently called it “ghoulish” to kill a man before launching a nuke that can murder millions.
