I’m only going to touch on your comment about the gay section. “If you’re gay cool keep it to yourself” is what you said. So in other words, they can’t talk about it. They can’t hold hands. They can’t be themselves, really?
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say you seem to be awfully thin skinned about that. If they want to hold hands, let them. If you accept a man and a woman holding hands than you should accept, male and male or female and female or whatever. Same for kissing in public. If you are ok holding hands with your significant other in public then let others do the same.

Yes there are people that eat too much and don’t work out and get fat because of it. Yes those people need to stop doing stupid stuff.
But there are a lot of reasons beyond that why a person is over weight and there is no way you can know what is going on. Thyroid issues are just one of them. My niece got cancer and it destroyed part of her thyroid and did other things to her body. She eats proper portions and eats healthy. Yet her body turns food into fat. She tries yet still gets fat.

Considering you know nothing about me , it’s interesting that you call me uneducated. Yet haven’t bothered to educate yourself about me.
Here’s the problem with your logic:
Once you start going down the rabbit hole of Maga, it’s very easy to get sucked into that and go down further.
Let me give you just one tiny example of what I’m talking about. Imagine you did a YouTube search on how to repair a 1982 Ford Mustang engine. The actual motor. YouTube‘s algorithm is now going to hand you more videos about the Ford Mustang engine from 1982 and maybe also 1983 and 1981. It’s also going to hand you videos that other people may have watched after watching The first video. So you click on another video and And now the YouTube algorithm, and you even more videos based on those two clicks.
The concept is to give you more information on the subject you’re looking up. Which is a good thing if the videos are accurate. What happens if they’re inaccurate? There’s nobody there to stop and say wait a minute, buddy. This isn’t right. There’s no sane voice in the crowd. Maybe what you’re doing to that engine or more correctly that motor is only going to destroy it and probably take out a transmission.
Am I comparing a Ford Mustang engine or transmission to Maga? There’s absolutely no way that any human being could say yes I’m comparing one to the other. That’s insane. What I’m talking about is the YouTube algorithm where there is no check balance in the system.
Now let’s replace Ford Mustang motor with the phrase flat earth. You inadvertently click on a video about flat earth. The first one you click on your laughing about Thinkinglike what would believe this? The problem is you click on one YouTube hands you another. And another next thing you know you are surrounded by videos that on the top level sound logical. Once you do any critical thinking or if you were to actually stop and go outside and look around you’d realize no that’s wrong.
Psychologist are watching this happen and they don’t know how to stop it. People get sucked into these conspiracy theories and there’s no way to reach them. It’s effectively a form of brainwashing.
Because it isn’t just YouTube. YouTube and Google are owned by the same company. So what you do on one will reflect in the other. Because of cookies. So now you’re going to Google and you’re seeing things about flat earth. With those cookies and that tracking data is shared with other companies. These other companies they want your eyeballs they want your views, they want your clicks. So they serve up these weird conspiracy theories because that’s what you were looking up. That must be what you’re interested in. That must be what you want. So that’s what they served to you. Now you’re surrounded by wackadoodle ideas.
And psychologist don’t know how to reach these people.
Now let’s remove the word flat earth, and let’s insert the Maga mentality. You get the exact same result. Because they get surrounded by the same bullshit and there’s no realistic way to reach them. It’s something in the human mind. I’m going to be honest. I don’t truly understand it. I don’t think anybody does. But once you start going down a path where everything around you is saying one thing is true. And you start believing it. It becomes very difficult to convince that person that , no everything you’ve just seen is wrong.
Now let’s add another layer. They turn on Fox News and they start getting the same message. The same Maga message. So now their favorite news station is saying the same thing as their YouTube search which is a saying the same thing as their Google searches. And it’s all saying things like trans People are bad. It’s all saying things like illegal immigrants are all rapists. It’s saying things like just by reading a book about a trans person you could become trans. Like somehow that book is going to brainwash you. So let’s remove all the books from the library.
This is not a joke. There’s a town just north of me where some of the conservatives in the town are absolutely 100% convinced that in the elementary schools they’re taking dog dishes and having the kids eat off the floor out of the dog dish. As some sort of brainwashing technique to teach the kids they’re not human or they’re not a boy or they’re not girl or they’re not something else.Why that long weird sentence? Of what they’re brainwashing the kids to be? Because it Why that long weird sentence? Of what their brainwashing the kids to be? Because it’ll depend on which conservative in that town you talk to.
The problem is certain conservatives are becoming so brainwashed by the crap that they are seeing no one even knows how to reach them. Some of the best psychologist in the world are looking at this, and they say it scares them because they don’t know how to fix the problem. They don’t even truly understand why it’s happening let alone how it’s happening.
I know some of the people in lemmy will hate this statement. But I could do the exact same thing with something on the left side. For example, communism. It’s possible to use that technique and get a person twisted around where they would believe that communism is a good thing. I’m not talking about socialism and not talking about having a social network to help poor people. I’m talking about communism.
You can do with just about any subject.
Now does that mean that you should embrace their crazy ideas? Of course not does that mean you should keep trying to fix the problem I would say yes. If you think there’s a possibility of ever reaching them that is. You have to look at that person and ask, is there a possibility of ever reaching them giving them the information and getting them turned back around? If not, yeah maybe you have to walk away.
I don’t know if it’s fair to say that they hate you. But it is also not fair to say just cut off contact or refuse to have contact with anybody on the Maga side. Because maybe you are that sane voice to help them out. Maybe you have the information to get them to turn around. If you don’t, then who’s going to help them. Because now you’ve walked away from them and there is absolutely zero sane voice in the crowd. Again you have to look at that individual and ask, is there any possibility of reaching them at all.
The first person you have to take care of is you. Then you help out those people that you care about who you can help. And then you go from there. But to just give up and walk away, that’s a very dark path.
