Current IP law may be too over reaching but I do like the idea that if an artist writes a song, or paints a picture others can’t just make copies and sell it. Similarly, if someone makes some invention its nice that there is an incentive to publish the technology openly for everyone to understand how it works, and in return they get to profit from their discovery for a set number of years.
Some design patents and patent tolls are obviously bad, but I think for the most part its a decent system. What compromise would you propose?

Progressive Politics, Gun Control, Single Payer Healthcare and Free Abortions for All!@lemm.ee•Trump: Elon Musk Has Done a Great Job
31·9 months agoI guess I didn’t realize that he floods these communities…
I was just struck by a conservation I had with a family member recently that made me want to start commenting on these communities. I was telling the family member about Lemmy/Mastodon and urged them to join but they said their “crowd” was on X. I did realize certain articles posted to conservative communities get down voted to oblivion while the same article on a news community will get hundreds of up votes.
I want the fediverse to be open to all even those with differing opinions…
What makes you think OP is operating several accounts? Why flood such dead communities?

7·9 months agoI get what you’re saying but at the same time, it is much easier to tear things down then build them up. If you fire everyone that manages social security for example, it will be very difficult/costly to train up all new people. This isn’t some policy that can just be reversed and that’s the end of it. I’ll reiterate, I truly think think the damage being done will lower the standard of living for Americans for generations to come and that really saddens me.

7·9 months agoI’m sorry that you feel that way. If you’re uncomfortable giving your opinion I can give mine and see if we have any middle ground. From my perspective, DOGE is an attempt to repeat what was done to Twitter on a much larger scale. The U.S economy is crashing hard as a result. I’m legitimately concerned the damage DOGE has done to the U.S government will be permanent. The cutting of research and government programs at this level will have lasting impacts that will reduce the quality of life of Americans for generations. I can elaborate further if you want. I understand others gut reactions to down vote your comments and your posts when they disagree but this is a conservative community. I’m clearly not conservative but respect that people have other political views. Perhaps I’m an optimist but I think if platforms like Lemmy don’t allow those on the other side of political spectrum to have conversations then it pushes people into their own echo chambers further polarizing the individual. I hope you feel more comfortable to share your personal opinion on what is happening in future. Given how extreme it is, I think its necessary to really understand what is happening.
