Love these guys and their song.
aliceblossom@lemmy.worldto Ask Me Anything@lemmy.ca•I'm a stone mason, and I'm half way convinced that a fair portion of the posts here are at MOST five people. AMA?4·3 months agoDo you think it’s possible that stone masonry is, adjusted for inflation, more expensive today than it was a hundred years ago despite improvements in technology? I.e. Cheaper, shorter lived building materials/techniques generates reduced demand for stone masonry, causing fewer stone masons like yourself to exist and ply the trade, increasing scarcity and therefore cost.
Edit: also, huge admiration for your trade. I love stonework and wish it were more common.
aliceblossom@lemmy.worldto Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Duolingo’s AI Update is Quietly Ruining Everything62·4 months agoDo you mean middle school level vocabulary? Because I would argue that middle schoolers are absolutely fluent in their native languages. Hell, I think maybe even 9 year olds are fluent.
Character design on right is evocative of Yu Yu Hakusho. Or maybe it just looks like a young Genkai?
Amen. The layer system works the way my brain works. Top tier, hard to use anything else.
aliceblossom@lemmy.worldto Antiwork@lemmy.world•We are at a point wherein the system can not repair itself and if things progress further in the proceeding 4 years what little we have been holding on to shall be reduced to nothing3·8 months agoMore education is definitely needed - that’s the stage the movement is at. But you (whoever is reading this) could be the one to educate people. The emphasis of most of these local chapters is education, and they’ll teach you how, where, and when to educate people.

Ranked choice voting (aka single transferable vote), proportional representation - these things increase political competition by making more parties mathematically possible and give us greater control over our government.
It’s already been implemented in some States and municipalities across the country. If yours isn’t one of them, it could be. There are several orgs trying to get this done such as Rank The Vote. Check to see if you have a local chapter and how you can help them!
Millie Bobby Brown actually has (or had) this going on due to her filming Stranger Things during formative years. It’s really fascinating to listen to this weird halfway point between the two. You can hear it well here: https://youtu.be/xhjooxtYf9Q?t=50
A particularly interesting point is around ~1:10 where she’s been largely using her American accent, but she uses the word after, but instead of starting the word with the TRAP vowel we would expect, she uses the BATH vowel instead owing to her original British accent. But I think what’s even more interesting is that when she does this, it doesn’t sound like she swapped back to her British accent for a single word - it sounds much more like someone with a general American accent doing an impression of a British person saying the word after!
I’m not jazzed about that part either. I’m trying to support this simply for the potential it has for general strike. Nothing else.
Really appreciate that. Thanks.
They have nothing to do with the image but Workers Strike Back is having a conference to organize into a body that can make demands and negotiate in a general strike situation. They’re getting major Union leaders to attend (Amazon, UAW, etc) so the resulting org should actually have sway. But the conference is open to anyone and they’re welcoming anyone to join them. aliceblossom@lemmy.worldto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth [PCGamer review 68/100]English4·9 months agoI will never entertain the argument of the person you replied to and your post is exactly why. The originally story being divided into three pieces, is in itself not an actual problem. It could potentially cause other problems, but whether or not it actually does is completely separate.
Remake took me 80 hours to complete (to my non-completionist satisfaction) and had a clear and satisfying beginning middle and end. On this front, I don’t know what you could realistically complain about.
aliceblossom@lemmy.worldto Games@sh.itjust.works•The pressure of success: Citizen Sleeper 2 and the mission to expand RPGsEnglish4·9 months agoAbsolutely loved the first game. I’m a little biased because it’s one of my favorite kinds of settings, but it’s really good all around. Killer art direction, palpable atmosphere and tension, interesting narrative choices, high level of intrigue, and while the mechanics are pretty simple they are snappy and engaging.

I’m with you. I love paint.net. For me it’s not even necessarily the feature set, but the fact that it starts up instantly unlike others. Most of the time I’m using it to make a quick meme and having to wait for something like GIMP to open makes me feel like it’s not worth making.
