It depends on your BIOS, but most motherboards have some way to manage your fans.

For example, mine looks similar to this screenshot. You just set the curves how you want based on temp:

This is all just for fun, so I did consider it a good learning experience. I decided to just revert back to BIOS controls, but now I know how I would control my fans in the future if I ever wanted to.

I’m overdue for a new build anyway, and I will not be going for Corsair again. It’s exciting to get to pick out all components that play well with Linux out of the box.

Well, I’m not quite there yet, but I DID remove Windows from my primary PC a couple of weeks ago too and now have no windows machines in the house. It’s great.

Part of me is wondering if it would be fun to install base Debian and manually add all the things I want from there as a learning experience, or if that’s a dumb idea. Also, the Arch wiki sounds like an incredible resource to have if I went down that route instead…

Either way, I’ve been taking a short break from Lemmy because some stuff had bothered me, but I’m sure I’ll be back in earnest soon.

I’m personally in favor of keeping it here. I think the stability and longevity of the community here outweighs the decentralizing benefits of uprooting.
