  • Maybe it’s because I’m a pilot, but I think you have responsibility for your driving unless you’re being physically forced to do it. Your boss doesn’t know the conditions outside your house. Your boss doesn’t know the condition of your car

It’s up to you, as operator of the vehicle, to not drive if the conditions are too bad. Final responsibility for safe driving rests with the driver

…Also it would be really nice if people didn’t have to drive. I never have to worry if the subway will be running when it’s snowing. Just saying

  • Yeah, we know, Biden wouldn’t shut up about how profit was totally good

I don’t recall him ever talking about EP. It’s a rather niche economic metric. Are you confusing it with corporate profits, GDP, or some other more common metric?

Sure everyone was dying but fuck you; we only care about profit.

The charts show a dramatic fall in 2020, and even specifically calls out COVID as being a big factor that reduced EP

The timing also seems framed to praise Trump

EP would be a ridiculous metric to judge a president on, but if someone were to, the data would look very bad for trump. 2017-2021 had far lower EP levels compared to 2021-2025

    it’s talking about 2020-2024z

The piece talks about 2005 to 2025, using 5 year averages

I’m starting to wonder if it’s possible that you may not have read the article?

  • From a separate article:

Don McGowan, Pokémon’s veteran ex-legal chief, has told IGN he believes any such action is highly unlikely — and listed numerous reasons why.

“I don’t see them doing anything about this for a few reasons,” McGowan, now principal at Extreme Grownup Services, told IGN today. "First, think of how little you see [The Pokémon Company International]'s name in the press. They are INSANELY publicity-shy and prefer to let the brand be the brand.

“Second, many of their execs in the USA are on green cards,” he continued. “Even if I was still at the company I wouldn’t touch this, and I’m the most trigger-happy CLO [Chief Legal Officer] I’ve ever met. This will blow over in a couple of days and they’ll be happy to let it.”

Nintendo isn’t going to do anything unless they face public backlash like Disney did

  • Important context to that graph is the fact you’re showing the official exchange rate, which was 1/3rd the street rate at the time. The government rate was fixed by the government, while the street rate was determined by a free-ish market (in the economic sense, it was an illegal market)

  • Especially bad given 2025 has been the worst year for the USD in decades. Admittedly only 10-12% decline for USD

Edit: I’ve been reading more about the Argentinian economy today. The exchange rate is very misleading. Milei has done a terrible job, but the important context to the exchange rate is that it was artificially deflated by the government for a long time. I posted a better chart in another comment

  • Why did you post a picture of the North Korean talking head that makes up stories about North Korea for money?

Having seen North Korea for myself, I can assure you it is an oppressive regime

quit being terrified of places on the other side of the planet you’ve only ever heard about as Scary Ghost Stories

I’m curious, what is your experience with North Korea? Have you ever talked to any North Koreans yourself? Ever seen the country? Or are you relying solely on things you’ve heard online?

It is a bit silly that they called China an oppressive regime though. Much of that is misinformation. A good example being the social credit score system. Many people actually believe it exists as some dystopian system, despite the fact it is effectively the same as similar systems in place in the US (credit score, points on license, no fly lists, etc. - a hodgepodge of disconnected systems)

China is a bit more oppressive than the US, but it’s far closer to the US than it is to places like North Korea, Eritrea, or Turkmenistan. Especially lately as the US has shifted noticeable towards more centralized governmental control
