Thanks to everyone who makes this open environment possible. I used to be in IT but don’t have the new knowledge to help out, so again thanks.

Since the lord’s obviously not part of the solution that must make it part of the problem.

Although fracking liquid has always been my biggest target on the stupid list, what about the rest of the waste being hidden by corporations in every industry? All the hidden costs that should have been eating up there profits all along are coming home to roost.

I believe in the concept of IP but not in it’s current practice. My argument is not in this but in someone taking credit for the work of others. Now China may have innovated and contributed most of the breakthroughs that led to this success, but given the record of infiltration into government and private companies around the world I have chosen to look at any “accomplishments” that they claim as being theft. That is their legacy to deal with.

A long, long time ago, someone asked that very question while sitting in a bait shop eating pizza. Of course there were no computers at the time so the question was about posting personal adds on the local notice board. The consensus was that it was a good idea but the fish monger, who managed the board, was against it. Try as they may the supporters could not convince them to change their mind. Eventually they gave up and decided to find another location for the personal adds. Looking down at the pizza box in front of them they had an idea. Why not put personal adds on the tops of peoples shoes. Then as they shuffled around town looking down as to not make eye contact with others, they would see the personal add. Of course this practice of not looking people in the eye made the need for a space for personal adds all the more urgent. The next problem was how to decide who’s shoes you would attach your add to and how to do it without sneaking into their homes at night. A young delivery clerk reached into their mouth and pulled out a very tired piece of bubble gum he had been chewing to the point it was devoid of flavour and use, except for the fact it was still very sticky. “We could put the notice on the ground and place some gum on it so when someone steps on them both, the notice will become attached to that persons shoe”. Immediately the crowd moaned that you wouldn’t be able to tell who would be the recipient of someones plea for love. The wanted to know how this could be resolved, to which the young clerk responded, “You can hire a gumshoe”.

The Chinese already have a propensity for self promotion and thinking you’re better than everyone else is a fallacy. I agree it doesn’t matter who gets it done, just that it gets done and the technology is shared to make life on this planet better. I don’t know details of the Chinese sharing history/policy but if we look at other nations use of knowledge to manipulate and cajole, I don’t have much hope. I sure hope we have 500 years to find out.

This is not an accomplishment, this is stolen technology with more resources applied.

Nice job on layout and content. Thanks very much.

Governments have both the ability to punish and reward. I’m simply trying to promote the latter. Now, one thing I loath is using taxpayer funds to help companies make money, so the research and implementation of a better way has to include an equity stake, or outright ownership.

They’ll change if the profit is to be made elsewhere. Also the threat of liability can help.

It’s so frustrating to watch these stupid, divisive policies being employed around the world. The need isn’t to seemingly punish those that love a thing, it is to offer an alternative that current methods cannot compete with. All this whole exercise has done is make enemies and caused pushback to the point that we have one step forward and two steps back.

Wait 'till the golden fart and putin his foot in his mouth figure out a way to rig the upcoming “election”.

Business school is only a symptom of the problem. I blame genetics! The type of people who hold this view have always, intentionally or not, made it look like the best system. Adopt this approach and those that began it, and their brethren will reward you. Alternately you’ll do well anyway because ultimately it’s the best way to make money. The problem is it’s also the best way to make enemies if the greater balance isn’t maintained. How is this genetic? Well I just think it’s the way some people are wired. I know there’s no doubt that you’re environment plays a big roll, but in combination it can be catastrophic. Either way it doesn’t seem anyone has recognized this. By that I mean society keeps getting sucked along and the decades of mentioning of anything of this sort, is quashed. When will we wake up? I’d like to add that once you gain more control it is easier the keep the ball rolling.

It is important to recognize that the impetus of this change is the horrible pain that pet owners go through when their pet is abducted for meat. There is no right to claim any individual species as “more important” given current human consumption habits.

I just want to add that I do recognize waste as a problem and something I personally tackle every day and try to influence others to pay attention to. There are many things that need to be done on a much larger scale but without education it would never get support. One of my favourites would be to mandate product warranties.

Blaming the 1% is popular right now but not relevant to the impact population has on our world. Mineral extraction, land clearing for food production and the raping of our oceans is not being done for the 1%.
Although I understand your point I think your understanding of the topic is lacking. You obviously don’t get the big picture.

There are absolutely too many people on the planet. It’s not about waste (although that’s part of it) as much as there are limited resources to feed everyone and make all their toys. Now it is possible to feed everyone for some time but we will be doing it while the natural world disappears. Some care, some don’t.

Poor Santa. That bitch has been passed around more than a 2 dollar whore at a tractor pull.
I like this kind of “use it or loose it” approach to IP. It talks about cost to the IP owners but if private servers are sourced to support continuity, then the cost to them is far less. Of course they will loose their revenue stream but if they were going to shut it down anyway then it is more about protecting the user base, which I fully support.
