Kind of wild to realize that VanEck, who have ~$100 billion in AUM (already a basically incomprehensible amount of money), have less than 1% of the AUM of either Blackrock or Vanguard.

The main thing is that SMLL only covers Australia. AVTS is global developed (global excluding emerging markets).

There are also some important differences in methodology and number of holdings but those are less relevant insofar as the two ETFs aren’t in the same product category 😅

Afaik the first specifically small cap value ETF available domestically? Dimensional (and presumably others) have had small OR value but not both. VanEck have ETFs for “quality” which have some overlap.

A smidge pricey at 0.49% but I guess not terrible compared to the alternatives available. At a glance it looks like basically a wrapper over the US version of the fund. edit: it looks like it’s actually the Ireland version

I find that it makes it hard to justify having them super often because then the math looks really bad comparing to just buying beans (etc) in bulk and doing some DIY flavo(u)ring (plus figuring out storage).

It’s a huge upgrade to just “randomly” give out, which makes me really curious about several behind-the-scenes decisions about why now, why such a big upgrade, why it’s restricted to certain configurations, etc.
