Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Traffic congestion increased this year, despite new roads

It’s amazing to me how millions of Americans complain about traffic every day but never think about how to alleviate it.

2·12 days agoThis caught my eye because we just got back from one of our periodic trips to Chicago to relax in a walkable city. The cold is so much more tolerable than driving.

1·6 months agoSo bluesky is as decentralized as mastodon, but you achieve that by running a relay instead of a server? Do I have that right?

Genuine question, then: why is hardly anybody hosting their own Bluesky server?

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Bluesky is more open than you think.
6·6 months agoIt’s not a matter of how many users, but whether those users have the option to switch servers. By the former standard, mastodon would be considered centralized simply because of mastodon.social.

That’s the American mentality all the way: individual solutions to societal problems. Traffic taking up your time and killing the environment? Just buy a comfy car with good AC. Lethal traffic accidents? Just make sure your car is bigger so the other person gets killed. School shootings? Don’t ban guns, just give your kid a bulletproof backpack.
It’s a disgusting way to live, honestly.
