  • If you’re out there suggesting political stances can be adequately expressed along a single line, then you’re not doing much better I’m afraid. Engage with the nuance, friend, it’ll build understanding and be better for all of us.

‘Left’/‘Right’ need to go, they’re losing any meaning they once had - instead: “What’s your policy on X”? “How do you feel about Y?” “Do you agree with Z’s policy on A, B & C, and why?”.

Curiosity, followed by grounded opinion, over tribalism.

Now excuse me while I go and try to practice what I just preached 😅

Disappointing that this isn’t the overwhelming response; and shows how dangerously close to fascism a lot of the supposedly ‘anti fascist’ respondents actually are.

To ban a thing, you’d better first clearly define what it is.

Right/Left are poor descriptors of often complex political stances, with ‘far right’ being no easier.

Clearly a dangerous path. Those beying for ‘a ban on far right’ need to take a pause and think, it’s like they’ve forgotten what nuance is.

Better to a) fund the teaching of critical thinking and humanistic morality through the education system; and b) foster domestic economic policies that maximise opportunities for your citizens so they don’t feel disenfranchised in large numbers.

That will help prevent the emergence of tribalistic, insular, moral-absolutist behaviour closer to the root.

  • Are there any AI apps that will index markdown documents with a vector DB, then allow you to run natural language queries using some kind of RAG approach with a local LLM?

Closest I’ve found is LlamaIndex, but this is still more of a ‘foundation’ than a turn-key solution and right now I’m too time-poor to do the assembly required…

I realise I’m describing close-to-frontier tech, but is there anything more turn-key (Dockerised) out there yet?

My use-case is pretty ‘vanilla’ in this space: Having a knowledge base and wanting quick answers to questions like “How should screen X behave if I am not a registered user?”.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

To be clear, you are criticising Sabine for saying there should be no research grants for women? If so, you perhaps misinterpret her meaning?

If I know Sabine at all from her videos, she would have meant that in an equal world, grants aimed specifically at either sex should not be necessary.

That’s quite different from a “raise the drawbridge” stance - but I’m a casual viewer, so please be kind while putting me right, if warranted.

  • Interesting you say that. I loved District 9 then the next thing I saw from him was ‘Oats Studios’ shorts; which turned me right off the guy.

Billed as post apocalyptic stories; it sounded entertaining but what I saw was strong shock/gore/horror stuff which just seemed to go for straight up nastiness with no decent story, message or social commentary that I could discern. Juvenile writing paired with horrible imagery for the sake of it.

Not for me, and I’m not sure who it would be for really. Black Mirror has a cerebral quality but Oats was simply depressing rubbish.

I don’t think I’ll watch another thing by him. Really disappointing since District 9 was fantastic.
