  • What I especially love about the endings is that there isn’t any “good” ending in the game. Some are worse than others, but there’s never a net positive for V. No matter what, there is a human cost to victory. Night City would never allow some lowly merc to have a happy ending. Arguably, the “third option” can be seen as the “best” ending, as it costs the fewest amount of lives. But holy shit, the voicemails you get in that ending are heartbreaking.

Also, I think this is just an Mbin issue, but the spoiler tags don’t work if there’s a space before the closing tag.

    Cyberpunk 2077.

It’s one thing to read a cyberpunk novel or watch a cyberpunk movie and “get” the moral of the story, which is usually “misuse of technology is bad”.

But it’s another thing to actually spend time in that world; to feel the effects of corporate corruption on your community, to experience the addiction to mind- and body-altering technologies, to watch loved ones - who you’ve spent hours looking directly in the eye and having conversations with - have their lives taken from them unfairly so that the richest person in the world can get 0.0001% richer.

I’d always been wary of techno-corpo bullshit. But that game instilled an all-new level of hatred in me; a hatred toward billionaires and megacorporations, toward oligarchs and aristocrats, toward those with the resources to change things for the better but too apathetic to stick their necks out.

    Johnny Silverhand was right.

It it simply not true that other (at least well-known) companies have had a wide range of random product types explode or catch fire frequently enough to remark on.

I guess we have different definitions of “casually following the news”, then. Because the Vaio incident was around a decade ago, and I was able to recall that off the top of my head due to the amount of articles that were posted about that product, specifically.

if you would stop being offended, you might see that I make a decent point.

Why would I be offended? I own literally zero Samsung products. And not because I’m worried that they’ll catch fire; I just don’t like their software. I’m not offended, and you still have no valid point, because your “point” hinges entirely on a bandwagon fallacy instead of real data.

  • Again, the crux of the issue is that you seem to believe that Samsung is unique in this. They’re not. Simply casually following the news reveals this. You’re focusing on Samsung because that’s apparently the only one you’ve paid attention to, but that doesn’t change the fact that Samsung devices are no more prone to spontaneously exploding than [insert whatever brand you’re loyal to here].

    You said:

I certainly cannot name another company with a product explicitly banned from air travel because it routinely caught on fire.

Any product that has a recalled battery is banned on flights. Including the aforementioned Vaios, which were making headlines before the Note 7 was even a thing. The Vaios weren’t discontinued, though, like the Note 7 was. Instead, Sony kept making the same Vaio models, but with upgraded batteries.

The Note 7 is only unique in this regard because there does not exist a non-recalled model of the Note 7; the entire product line was shelved, which was a decision made by Samsung, not the TSA. If Samsung were to have continued producing the Note 7 with new batteries, it would not be included separately on TSA’s list and would be covered under the larger ban for recalled batteries.

So the Note 7 isn’t even singled-out for the reason you seem to believe it is.

While I do share some of her concerns with the way he blends his religious beliefs into his therapy, he’s generally pretty good about distinguishing therapy (of which there are many different forms that may or may not involve religious practices) and neuroscience. Though that might be hard to glean through carefully-selected 10-second clips.

I’m really not a fan of the way she takes a lot of his clips out of context. For example, in the Miskif interview on ADHD where he offers prayer beads, he’s not actually suggesting that Mizkif start praying or adopt a new religion; he’s offering what’s effectively a fidget toy, which is something quite commonly suggested for ADHD sufferers as sensory input often helps ADHD patients focus. Longer clip of the segment in question.

I couldn’t finish her video, though, because the constant pausing to interject her own quips made it feel like a Reddit argument where somebody argues each of your sentences in isolation instead of arguing against the whole comment. So I’m not sure where Reckful comes into play here.

  • How many people benefit if America collapses and how many people will suffer if they don’t? We all know the answer.

Few to the former, and many an immeasurable amount to the latter. (Edit: I read the comment wrong)

I’m not so sure “collapse” is the concept you’re looking for. The Soviet Union collapsed, if you want an example of how well that went in terms of quashing fascism.
