  • It’s difficult to determine the true state of things in Ukraine because both sides have interest in propagandizing to the west. But the way they are fighting tells me that to varying degrees, both sides are quite worn down and unable to commit any significant number of troops to one area. Skirmishes seem to involve less than a dozen people on any one side, frequently unsupported by heavy weapons.

With this in mind, I have no idea why Russia would want to open the conflict even wider. They’re using fucking donkeys to ferry supplies to the front. But who knows what Russia is thinking. Maybe they want an excuse to begin full mobilization of the population. Maybe they’re building up reserves that I’m unaware of. Maybe they think they can get away with slinging some drones at the NATO pig-dogs and taking some back in return.

  • The short version is even the seemingly well-meaning ones are making or alluding to promises they just can’t keep.

The key problem with cryonics is that water expands into ice crystals when frozen, and the human body is 70% water. Tissues, including critical brain tissue, are destroyed. Dessication before freezing would also cause damage. Some firms say they have the secret sauce or are close to it, but nobody has answered this question AFAIK.

And then there’s the longevity. These facilities claim to be able to run decades or even centuries, without failure, but that is an extremely high bar regardless of how much money you throw at it. Power fluctuations and equipment failure take their toll. There are already stories of cadavers turning into soup in their care.

  • My opinion of therapists is generally low. The profession seems to attract a lot of people who “like talking with people and helping people” (and want to make a professional wage), but just don’t have the temperament, intuition, and/or frankly, the intelligence to do the job well. I’m sure there’s good ones out there, but the demand for good therapy I’m sure is high.

I do think dealing with autistic clients only goes well if they are autistic or have a lot of experience in dealing specifically with them. It’s not an easy mindset to work with if you only have a textbook definition in front of you.

But if you say you have yourself figured out, it should be asked what sort of satisfaction or illumination you are looking for? And is it realistic to expect this stranger, however professional they may be, to be able to give that to you?

  • There’s an op-ed piece by a ranking US military official called “Why Arabs Lose Wars” that touches on the phenomenon. Thinking back on it, there’s probably more than a pinch of racism in its construction, but the gist of it is:

    1. There is zero trust between enlisted and command. Officers treat their underlings with classist contempt, which is reciprocated.
    2. There is no individual initiative, every order must come from the top, lest you be perceived as disloyal, or worse, competent. Which leads us to
    3. Regimes are terribly paranoid of coups, so they deliberately hamstring their forces in organization, training, and equipment to hedge against it. Only the “Republican Guard” equivalent gets any sort of trust.

  • Came back to play the game just for it. I haven’t really played regularly since before the illuminate were added.

The MA5C is the only one I’ve unlocked so far, but it feels very much like the default AR, might be the same firing sound even. The medium pen is appreciated, but you do feel that 32 round mag, I think it should come with 9 or 10 mags to compensate.

Sucks that the shotgun is lackluster. I thought for sure that 8 gauge would hit like a truck when I saw that 6 round capacity.
