The original PlayStation 5, colloquially referred to now as the PlayStation 5 Fat, was equipped with 825GB of internal storage, of which approximately 650GB was accessible to the user, depending on system updates and other variables. The shift to the PlayStation 5 Slim introduced numerous enhancements, including an increase to 1TB of storage, providing the user with approximately 850GB of available space (subject to similar factors).

The CFI-2116 revision, also known as “Chassis E,” marks the return of the 825GB SSD, which Sony advertises on the new packaging. Consumers are losing close to 200GB, or 24%, of usable, high-speed storage with the latest revision. You could argue that 200GB isn’t a lot, and that’s true in a way since some AAA titles — specifically, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War — are pushing over 300GB of installed size. But under normal circumstances, 200GB should be enough for one or two games.

Seems like Sony has a bunch of 825GB hard drives sitting around to me.

  • Snow White failed where other Disney remakes didn’t because the original Snow White is not currently a nostalgic touchstone the way the Disney Renaissance films are.

It’s not about the bad writing. Every single Disney remake has had bad writing.

It’s not about bad effects. Every single Disney remake has had bad effects.

It’s not about the culture war outrage. Every single Disney remake has had culture war outrage.

The difference lies purely in the age and cultural relevance of the Snow White IP. The other live action remakes have all been driven by Millennial parents taking their kids to see them, but Millennial parents just don’t give a shit about Snow White. It was ancient when they were kids, expecting them to want to see it is like expecting them to want to see a reboot of Betty Boop or Felix the Cat.

Snow White is a film so irrelevant that 99% of people can’t name the villain. You might have just said “Maleficent” at your screen but you’re wrong - she’s the villain in Sleeping Beauty, the villain in Snow White is “Queen Grimhilde”. Could you even articulate the difference in plot between those two films? I would wager that must people can’t.

  • Yeah I was thinking about that, which is why I pointed out that Apple’s plan only worked because of the massive growth in personal computing. Google was able to create marketshare for Android during the massive growth in smartphones, but those conditions haven’t existed for anyone for a while.

Generally how these things go is that after the growth phase comes consolidation and monopoly - we’re far more likely to see Apple and MS merge into one corporation than we are to see a third option emerge as a serious competitor.
