  • My wife and I bought a house about 6 years ago. The previous tenants were going to do a lease to own situation that fell through. When they left the house, they cut all of the power and left it vacant for a couple of months. After we made our offer, I was walking through the house and opened the refrigerator and was presented with about 40 lbs of spoiled meat that was abandoned. The smell was awful and no matter what I did for cleaning, the fridge was never going to bounce back. Due to timing, we moved in before we could address the fridge, so it was still there when we brought our dogs in for the first time. Brutus walked up to the fridge, smelled it, and peed on it. We all just laughed because he was right. He has only had one accident in the house over the past 7 years, and this wasn’t it. We bought a new fridge the next night. Maybe not the funniest thing of all the things our dogs have done, but one of my favorites.

  • As shitty as I think that it is that a bunch of people are getting axed over their social media posts, I also keep thinking how dumb people are for posting these thoughts publicly and not anonymously.

Companies reprimanding employees for their social media content isn’t something that’s new. The 1st amendment allows people to say pretty much what they want, but it doesn’t protect against consequences from those words. I know that there are varying degrees for what people are saying that they are getting fired for, from true celebration about Kirk’s death to what Kimmel said the other night which wasn’t actually about the shooting but the response. A company has the right to protect their image if it’s employees are doing something that can hurt it. I don’t agree with the firings, but I can understand some of them.

All this to say, don’t publicly post something controversial, especially politically, if those statements can be linked back to you. The world and specifically the US are not in a good place right now, and if you’re an “enemy” anything that can be, will be used against you. Be smart, delete Facebook, insta, and all the other social platforms that can be used to target you

  • I’m not thrilled that it came to the point that someone had to get shot to make the world a better place. I would have preferred it if Kirk changed his tune or just disappeared into the nothing. Instead, he continued to spread hateful rhetoric that has directly lead to others getting hurt or having their freedoms taken away. The world was immediately a better place the moment that bullet hit. I have empathy for those close to and that loved Kirk and are mourning his loss, but that’s met with the cautious optimism I have that those two kids have a chance at a better future.

Not you specifically, but this is pretty much the exact thing that I’ve seen non Americans calling for for months. Calls for why are Americans aren’t doing something about our Trump problem. Now when someone pulls the trigger and a domino falls, people around the world are clutching their pearls.

I’m not calling for violent action, but I’m also not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. When life gives you fascists, you make fertilizer.

If you could go back in time or have someone else do it and kill young adult Hitler, would you do it or condone that action?

  • While I don’t discount this as a possibility, I think it’s more likely that someone was done with the rhetoric and took actions into their own hands. The alleged writing on the casings also has precedent (see United Health CEO).

With the info released showing where they think the shot came from, that’s not a difficult shot to make. I’m not a gun guy, but my brother has a .30-06, same as reported for this, and I helped him dial in his scope at 200 yards. In 4 shots my grouping was within a couple inches, and that’s the first time I ever fired that rifle. If someone practiced, hitting a target that wasn’t moving from the assumed distance is completely viable.

I’d love if this came out and proved to be a false flag operation, where the shooter is a conservative ordered to make the hit from this administration. I don’t think it will, but on top of an already winning situation, that would be the cherry on top.

  • I don’t want to downplay the consequences of a strike, but that’s the whole power of unions. How to you fine somebody for not working? Take it out of the paycheck that they’re not earning? In the modern era, in the US, people aren’t getting murdered for striking. Is it a possibility? Sure, but even with everything going on, not realistic. Then we’re back to arresting people which doesn’t help the company in any way.

I understand that this is all an over simplification of the situation, but at a high level, this is the whole point of workers unions.

  • I wouldn’t take this as an attack on your character like you’ve said. It’s drawing a correlation between that situation and your opinion.

BLM when it started is all about bringing attention and equality to black individuals and communities. Think of it as black people saying, “hey, we matter too”. Conservatives, as a means to attack and weaken the movement said, “not just black lives matter, all lives matter” which is true, but all lives matter doesn’t bring attention to the parity between black people’s situations and white’s.

My first reaction when reading your post was similar to the person you responded to, but not because I think your a bad person, but maybe because of a misunderstanding or skewed view of what feminism is and stands for.

If you had said, feminism shouldn’t exist because males matter too, then I would have said you’re intentionally being like the all lives matter crowd with the intent of keeping the disparity between genders in place. But you didn’t.

  • I sweat extremely easy and a lot. I just today completed an Olympic length triathlon, so I’d say I’m in shape. It could be cool spring day outside, and I will sweat through a shirt if I were to ride for 20 min even at a leisurely pace on flat ground. Throw some hills in there and the shirt will be mostly wet with sweat.

  • Depending on which albums you listened, Take me Back to Eden and Even in Arcadia have a lot more metal to them than their first two. I think Vore and Infinite Baths have to be two of their hardest off the top of my head. They also often times have heavy breakdowns in their songs taking something more mellow to being more metal.

I don’t know where I’d truly classify them. You have a song like Vore and then DYWTYLM on the same album and they are very different. I think overall if I was going in not knowing them, I’d have gone with some sub genre of hard rock. Really I’m not a purist or anything like that and couldn’t tell you one sub genre from the next, so to me it’s rock music, which also encompasses metal.

But I would recommend listening to their latest two albums if you listened to This Place Will Become Your Tomb and Sundowning. I personally think they’re more enjoyable because they’re a bit harder and that’s part of why they’ve exploded over the last few years.
