Anyone have any recommendations for larger walking shoes for women that are fairly durable? I’m not looking for super stylish, just shoes that will last. Same goes for the underwear, as getting stuff that lasts is a real pain when you don’t know which are the better brands. I’d prefer more expensive stuff if folks know that it’s good quality.
I don’t know what your size is, but a lot of us (including me) wear shoe sizes that most stores don’t have in stock.
Thursday Boot Company has womens’ sneakers that go to size 13, and those are high quality. Someone did a three-year review, actually. Red Wings moc toe shoes are super durable and can be repaired. (Solovair and Jim Green are non-American alternatives for those boycotting.) Vans and Converse also has extended sizes, but those tend to be two-year shoes. I’d skip anything from Torrid and most other Chinese imports.
Underwear: The lady who runs Leolines is doing important work, but I’m not impressed with the quality. She splits the fabric in two places right where the tuck is, which is a design flaw that has led to multiple pairs failing on both me and my fiancee within a year. I’ve had way better experiences with TomboyX; the stitching is way tighter and it’s one big piece of fabric sewed to a waistband. I have yet to encounter a pair of tucking underwear that uses natural fibers, though. If you don’t need to tuck, I’ve had good experiences with PAKA and Branwyn.
A lot depends on what country you’re in these days. In the US, Hoka makes terrific walking and running shoes. That said, since doing daily walks and runs, I’ve come to realize that walking/running shoes don’t last as long as you might expect - only 500 miles or so. I was going about 6 miles every day, so I was astonished to see how quickly the shoes were wearing out, only to realize that it was just me beating them up extra hard. :)
As for underwear, TomBoyX, all day long. However, when it comes to working out, I’ve gotten away from wearing leggings (which I can rarely get to fit correctly around my butt and gut) and just use a bodysuit / leotard with a workout top. Best decision ever.
For shoes? I recommend any pair of decent basketball shoes really. They tend to have larger sizes while looking pretty nice. Sometimes more pricey but they hold us pretty well, I got a pair of Adidas Superstars that have been going strong for a few years and I got them on a 70% sale.
For underwear I got a few pairs from En Femme for tucking and they’ve lasted me quite a while now and only a few thread ever came loose. They range from 30-35 usd but they work well and again they last a long time.
for walking, I would look into running shoes - I personally like Altas (my feet are wide and they have wide shoes - some of the only shoes that fit me, tbh)
I don’t know that they last particularly long, but Pact underwear is good quality, made with cotton - they’ve lasted me years so far, but it depends on how frequently you wash them, your dryer settings, etc.
My favorite tucking underwear have been enfemme. I’ve had some for just over 3 years now and they still seem good. Obviously they’re not are tight as they were brand-new, but after the initial break-in, they pretty much have stayed the same and I can’t tell them apart from the ones I got 1 year ago.
No clue on shoes; last time I bought shoes was like 4 years ago before realizing I might not want men’s shoes and they also stopped making that version, so can’t even recommend them despite being marketed for men so I need to figure something out soon too.
