I am going to be upgrading my graphics card soon. and the ones in my price range are the above mentioned. Which do you think I should get.

As a side note the runners up were a 7900 XTX or 4080 both used. The reason I’m thinking of going with the above two are my Mobo ihas gen 5 PCIE.

What kind of games do you expect to play?

I have a 7900XTX and it’s been a totally fine card at high framerate 1440p/variable 4k in older titles. It’s a power hungry little b but I live in the pacific northwest where power isn’t crazy expensive.

    I would go 9070xt.

I cannot in good conscience ever, ever recommend a Nvidia card. Their performance is “Better” but their drivers currently are getting WORSE over time and their corporate monopolization of the GPU market is really bad news for PC gaming in general. They are fucking scummy pieces of shit and should not see any dollars from individual consumers ever if you have the tiniest bit of conscience.

Yes, AMD won’t be “as good” at ray tracing. I think ray tracing games are overblown and just another way Nvidia has tried to ace out competition.

I assume you mean the 5070ti? Depends on what OS you intend to run, which games, what CPU you have (driver overhead), what the local prices are like and how much belief you have in AMD Redstone being good.

I recently purchased the 9070XT and it’s phenomenal. I will note that the Linux drivers don’t seem to be as good as the Windows drivers, I get much better performance in a few games on Windows than my kubuntu install. But even the very poorly optimized borderlands 4 runs max settings at ~100FPS with frame Gen on and FSR set to performance mode.

I have heard that some games run better on Linux, too. People will likely see improvements at times, losses at others, and mostly equivalent performance on average.

My choice was 5070ti, but only because they are the same price with 9070xt where I live.

Usually, 9070xt costs around 80$ cheaper, which makes it a no-brainer to pick up over 5070ti, imo. Same performance, often better. Only slightly worse in RT, but, honestly, it’s often not worth turning it on anyway. It also has better Linux support and better driver support.

I would probably not go for 7900xtx because of FSR4 and subpar RT performance, which are kinda needed in some of the recent games (rip optimisation). But if you don’t care about those, it may be worth picking up.

4080… Depends on the price. I wouldn’t take it for a price higher than 5070ti.
