    Is this a “learning how to secure oneself for sleep” owlet thing? If that was an adult bird, my first thought would be that it was sick, but I’m not familiar with normal owl stances.

      It’s easier for them to lay down when they are smaller. Like a human baby, they’re top heavy and their muscles are growing along with the rest of them.

      The fortunate thing is that with how their leg anatomy works, having a locked grip is the resting state, so they don’t have to worry about accidentally letting go of the tree in their sleep. They have to stand up and actively release their grip.
