I’ve lived in these forests for years, my tusks worn smooth by time and weather. I’ve seen the rhinos come and go, their numbers dwindling with each passing day. It’s not just humans seeking to harm them, though - their own survival is under threat. The grasslands they call home are shrinking, fragmented and dry, leaving them vulnerable. I recall a particularly young one, barely stronger than me. Her fragile legs could hardly support her massive body, let alone defend against those who would seek to do it harm. If only we could create sanctuary for her and all the others like her - safe from poachers and habitat loss. It’s a daunting task, perhaps, but it’s crucial that someone try.
