2·17 days agoDifferent sync tools manage files differently. And it likely depends on the file type.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What's a good Google Drive replacement for syncing my Keepass database?
2·18 days agoIt should work for you! Especially if you are connected to the internet. But of course, wanted to bring up the one flaw I could think of up in case it would be an issue for you.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What's a good Google Drive replacement for syncing my Keepass database?
13·18 days agoThe downside is that if a device you aren’t online with modifies it, and doesn’t reconnect to the internet or even LAN that the other client is on, other clients will be out of date and potentially cause file syncing/overwriting issues.
But SyncThing is a good tool for this.

3·22 days agoWell, I got a switch 2 and the controllers didn’t work with it until I did. And bug fixed with some of the extra features.

2·22 days agoMy Laptop and Desktop have been windows free for years now. I Unfortunately have 1 box that it’s only purpose is to run software for my Line 6 Helix and Power Amp, and my 8bitdo controllers for firmware updates. However, that box I debloated, and remote into it from a superior system.
USB pasthrough used to work, and I’d run a VM but I no longer am able to do this.

Linux@sh.itjust.works•Flow chart for choosing a Linux distribution
3·24 days agoUh, I just use Base arch. Used it since I was new to Linux. I am not changing.
I got into custom ROMs late into the game. I always had locked devices because it was easier for me paying monthly for a phone.
However, when I switched to using my Pixel 7 Pro I tried LineageOS, and a few other forks and such. I tried GrapheneOS back when I was on my 7 Pro. I didn’t stick with GrapheneOS because I was struggling with some app compatability. Ultimately switched back to LineageOS with Root. It allowed me to use my system wife adblocking, and other custom stuff such as custom kernels, and modules.
I broke my 7 Pro, and got an 8 Pro. For a brief period of time I used LineageOS with root and custom modules and kernels. I got tired of having to fix play integrity and safety net. So I switched to GrapheneOS.
Noe that I am on GrapheneOS again full time, it has gotten a lot better, and more importantly I have changed my habits. So GrapheneOS offers me exactly what i want and need.
Hi dad, did you come back with the milk yet?
What distro should I use?
This always feels like a loaded question. I don’t believe there is a one choice that is “right.”
After distro hopping and trying many, I have come to a few realizations for myself.
There are a few factors to consider:
- What Desktop Environment (if any…): KDE, GNOME, XFCE, Cosmic, etc (this gets a bit more complicated depending on if you don’t want a desktop environment. You could just go CLI or with just a Window Manager like Hyprland, Sway, i3, or others I’m unfamiliar with.)
- What package manager are you comfortable with? And what style of package management do you want? Do you want older but tested and more stable? Do you want bleeding edge?
- Is systemd a deal breaker for you?
Really what I am getting at, you don’t know what you don’t know. So test out many! You can do this in a Virtual Machine with Virtualbox on Windows before switching.

131·2 months agoYou misunderstand, it’s not about not liking it. It’s how you’re conducting yourself. If you don’t like something you can move on. You didn’t have anything constructive to add to the conversation. Come in talking about your emulator when someone suggests an emulator after your mini outburst. Instead of being insufferable you could have offered constructive criticism. It’s not that hard to do, unless you lack the brain cells and common decency. Or you could have just moved along.

4·2 months agoWhy? I mean I’ve read talking points for having systemd and for not. What’s your take?
I have been running my own dockerized instance of SeaeXNG for years now. I love it. I have it setup behind a reverse proxy to serve a cert for https and I am always VPN’d into my home network (split tunnel for only apps I want to use my home network anyways) and it has been working like a charm.
Search results are reliable, and it’s customizable.

3·2 months agoHonestly, who gives a shit about the umpteenth rendition of the same damn game. Like, every single year it’s the same game with a differeny roster. Yet they release a whole new game.
They legitimately could release one every console cycle, and charge for new roster updates each year.
This type of shit is old.

I am a FOSS enthusiast, and use FOSS whenever possible. However, my DAW of choice is Reaper. It may not be FOSS, but I love this application. It works well, on windows, on Linux. It’s powerful.
